In 2002, French turntable quartet BIRDY NAM NAM grabbed the DMC world group DJ championship and quickly set about expanding the artistic possibilities of a scratch group. Each member uses their turntables and mixer to function as a band, effectively “playing” drums, bass, melody lines and efx from pre-existing recordings. And while many scratch groups can wow a live audience, few can match BIRDY NAM NAM’s creative compositions.
