happy 2014 loyal listeners, welcome to our annual “best of” episode. maybe it was just us, but, 2013 went by in a blur, smearing distinctions between genres and audiences. a year of new fusions and revivals of revivals. while classic house and disco-influenced sounds dominated mainstream pop music, dubstep and grime’s lasting influence fueled a slew of bass-heavy house and techno floor burners. thanks to chicago footwork’s global explosion, drum and bass finally found a new beat, which producers perfectly mashed up with a classic jungle revival. barriers between indie rock, disco and psychedelica continued to dissolve. in short, a musical landscape our intrepid selectors were made to navigate.
